Why Agradaa Was Not Included in Presidential Amnesty – Prisons Service Clarifies

Image
The Ghana Prisons Service has officially responded to widespread speculation surrounding the exclusion of Evangelist Mama Pat, popularly known as Agradaa, from the recent Presidential Amnesty granted to some inmates. Speaking to the media, Chief Superintendent Abdul Latif, the Public Relations Officer of the Service, dismissed claims that former President John Dramani Mahama deliberately refused to pardon Agradaa. According to him, Agradaa is not eligible for amnesty simply because she has not served half of her sentence—a key requirement under the guidelines for the programme. “Her offence may fall under a first-degree felony, but until she has served the required portion of her sentence and demonstrated good behaviour, she does not qualify,” Chief Supt. Latif explained. He further emphasized that the amnesty process is not political but rather follows strict legal and procedural criteria to ensure fairness and transparency. The clarification comes as part of efforts by the Ghana Pris...

Ghanaians Unite in Grief After Military Helicopter Crash

Image
A profound quiet has settled over Ghana, but it is a silence that speaks volumes. One day after the tragic military helicopter crash, a declared three-day period of national mourning begins, a powerful pause in the rhythm of a nation. This tragedy has stripped away the ordinary, forcing the nation to look inward and focus on the irreversible human cost. The swift and deeply personal response from the government, with Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang leading delegations to personally visit and inform the bereaved families, underscores a commitment to empathy over bureaucracy. This is not just a government reacting; it is a community grieving. The Unifying Power of Sorrow In the face of loss, the usual political fault lines have miraculously softened. Statements from across...
