Why Agradaa Was Not Included in Presidential Amnesty – Prisons Service Clarifies

The Ghana Prisons Service has officially responded to widespread speculation surrounding the exclusion of Evangelist Mama Pat, popularly known as Agradaa, from the recent Presidential Amnesty granted to some inmates.

Speaking to the media, Chief Superintendent Abdul Latif, the Public Relations Officer of the Service, dismissed claims that former President John Dramani Mahama deliberately refused to pardon Agradaa.

According to him, Agradaa is not eligible for amnesty simply because she has not served half of her sentence—a key requirement under the guidelines for the programme.

“Her offence may fall under a first-degree felony, but until she has served the required portion of her sentence and demonstrated good behaviour, she does not qualify,” Chief Supt. Latif explained.

He further emphasized that the amnesty process is not political but rather follows strict legal and procedural criteria to ensure fairness and transparency.

The clarification comes as part of efforts by the Ghana Prisons Service to correct misinformation and maintain public trust in the amnesty system, which aims to decongest prisons and reward rehabilitation.
