Effutu NDC PC Snubs MCE at Party Member’s Funeral

Tensions within the Effutu Constituency NDC boiled over on Saturday, 8th November 2025, when the party’s 2020 and 2024 parliamentary candidate, Dr. James Kofi Annan, openly refused to shake hands with the current Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Rev. Atta Mensah, during a funeral in Winneba.

The incident occurred at the final rites of David Nenyi Bonney, a dedicated NDC member and younger brother of the Effutu NDC Youth Organizer, Albert Nana Banyin Bonney.

As the MCE approached to greet Dr. Annan, he stood in front of him for nearly 30 seconds, attempting to engage in conversation. However, Dr. Annan remained unresponsive, refusing to extend a handshake. Eventually, some party executives seated with Dr. Annan advised the MCE to move on.

This public snub has fueled talk of internal conflict between the two leading figures in the constituency.

While some have criticized Dr. Annan’s actions as inappropriate for the occasion, others believe it highlights long-standing tensions, including claims that the MCE has sidelined him in party matters since his appointment.

Party supporters are calling on NDC leadership to intervene swiftly and foster unity, warning that unresolved divisions could affect the party’s chances in future elections.
