Key points in EOCO Statement on Shatta Wale
Dancehall star, Shatta Wale known privately as Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., was held by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in connection with a yellow Lamborghini Urus.
He reported himself to EOCO on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, with his lawyer Cephas Biyuo, to support investigations.
Key points in EOCO Statement on Shatta Wale
1.Reason for EOCO Involvement
Shatta Wale was invited by EOCO to assist in investigations concerning a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, identified by the FBI and US Justice Department as proceeds of a $4 million crime involving Nana Kwabena Amuah (a Ghanaian currently serving jail time in the US).
2.Background of the Case
The investigation is part of a wider probe into possible co-conspirators in Ghana linked to the $4m crime.
The car was tracked in Ghana, identified, and seized around May 2025 from Shatta Wale’s possession.
On August 15, 2025, a US court in Kentucky authorized the US Government to take possession of the vehicle in Ghana as restitution for the crime.
3. Shatta Wale’s Claims About Purchase
On August 5, 2025, Shatta Wale publicly claimed he purchased the Lamborghini for $150,000 from an unidentified party.
EOCO invited him on August 13, 2025, but he postponed and later reported on August 20, 2025.
4. Events at EOCO Office
Shatta Wale arrived at EOCO around 3pm but refused to cooperate until his lawyer arrived (a right he was accorded).
Interrogation lasted until 9pm (well past EOCO’s official closing time of 5pm).
He was granted bail at 9pm after interrogation.
5. Bail Conditions
Bail was set at GHC 10,000,000 with two sureties to be justified.
EOCO will inspect the sureties before releasing him from custody.
6. Issues With His Explanation
Shatta Wale was unable to identify the seller of the Lamborghini, only claiming he bought it from “the Street” through a contact called ‘ZAK’ on WhatsApp (whose details he discarded).
He has no receipt, transfer documents, or proof of purchase, only a custom declaration document in the name of Nana Kwabena Amuah (the jailed Ghanaian linked to the crime).
7. Date of Release
Statement signed by Head of Public Relations for EOCO Executive Director, dated August 21, 2025.
