“No Nation Develops Without Respect for Its Culture” – Tufuhen of Agona Nyakrom Speaks Boldly

The Tufuhen of the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, Nana Osei Bonsu III, has emphasized the critical role of culture and customs in national development, stating firmly that “Any country that doesn’t give honor to its customs and culture does not develop.”

He made this powerful statement during an exclusive interview with EKAEMEDIA at his palace in Agona Nyakrom.

According to Nana Osei Bonsu III, Ghana's youth and even some government leaders have gradually lost touch with traditional values and customs, which were once the bedrock of discipline and unity in the country.

He lamented the increasing level of disrespect shown toward elders and chiefs in society, especially on social media. “Today, the youth speak to elders, including chiefs, with no respect at all — rough, rough. It’s unbearable, and it's a dangerous path,” he warned.

The Tufuhen called on government bodies, educational institutions, and community leaders to actively promote and protect Ghanaian traditions. He also urged the youth to take pride in their heritage and to understand that culture is not outdated — it is a compass for progress.

The Agona Nyakrom Akwambo Festival 2025 is currently underway. The festival, which began on 2nd August, is filled with rich cultural displays, community activities, and unity programs. It is expected to end on 10th August 2025.
