President Mahama Assents to 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, Pledges Swift Implementation

President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday assented to the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, 2025, in a brief ceremony held ahead of the 13th Cabinet meeting.

In his remarks after signing the bill into law, the President described the legislation as a landmark step toward Ghana’s economic transformation.

“Cabinet colleagues, I just appended my signature to give assent to the 24-Hour Authority Bill. This Bill, which Ghanaians have been waiting for, was one of our flagship strategies for economic transformation,” President Mahama said.

He explained that the process took time because government needed to ensure due diligence before giving legal effect to the policy initiative.

“Now we must move from strategy to implementation. The business sector is waiting, Ghanaian investors are waiting, foreign investors are waiting. They want to see the package of incentives that we can afford, so that they can invest more, expand productivity, and create more employment for our young people,” he added.

The 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill establishes a central coordinating body to oversee the implementation of the 24-hour economy policy. The Authority will align public and private sector efforts, address infrastructure and regulatory needs, and provide incentives to businesses willing to operate around the clock.

The initiative is expected to:

  • Boost productivity across key sectors.

  • Attract both local and foreign investment.

  • Create new employment opportunities, particularly for Ghana’s youth.

  • Enhance competitiveness of Ghana’s economy in the global market.

With the bill now signed into law, attention shifts to the rollout of incentives and frameworks that will enable businesses to participate in the 24-hour economy.

The government has pledged to work closely with stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation and maximize the benefits of the policy.
