Effutu NDC Demands Transfer of Electoral Commission Director Over Alleged Irregularities

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Effutu Constituency has called for the immediate transfer of the District Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), citing alleged electoral irregularities during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) recent presidential primary.

The demand was made at a press conference held at the NDC Secretariat in Effutu, where Constituency Secretary Mr. Abraham Henry Arthur addressed the media. He accused EC officials in the municipality of serious misconduct, warning that public confidence in the electoral process was at risk.

The NDC’s concerns follow comments allegedly made by Mr. Theophilus Kojo Halm, immediate past Effutu NPP Constituency Chairman and Campaign Coordinator for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, during a radio interview on Winneba-based Nyce 90.7 FM.

According to the NDC, Mr. Halm claimed that sixteen deceased delegates appeared on the album used for the NPP’s January 31 presidential primary in Effutu and were voted for, allegedly through the influence of Effutu Member of Parliament and Minority Leader Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

The NDC says these claims confirm its long-standing concerns about the conduct of the Electoral Commission in Effutu.

Over the years, the party has repeatedly alleged instances of voter bussing, registration of non-residents and minors, and failure by authorities to address reported electoral breaches.

The NDC also criticized what it described as the silence of law enforcement agencies despite formal complaints lodged in the past.

The Effutu NDC is demanding:

  • A full-scale investigation into the conduct of the NPP primary in Effutu and publication of the findings.

  • The immediate transfer of the Effutu District Director of the Electoral Commission.

  • A temporary suspension of all electoral activities supervised by the Commission in the constituency until public confidence is restored.

Mr. Arthur stressed that the party will pursue the matter to its logical conclusion to ensure transparency, accountability, and the protection of democratic principles in Effutu.
