Beneficiaries Receive Tools and Equipment Under National Apprenticeship Programme in Effutu Constituency

The Effutu Municipal Assembly, led by Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Rev. Atta Mensah, has distributed high-quality toolkits and start-up equipment to beneficiaries of the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP) on Saturday, February 7, 2026.

The event, held in collaboration with Mr. Ebenezer Abeiku Essien, Central Regional Coordinator of NAP, and executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), marked a significant milestone in the programme's implementation. Over 50 apprentices received tools and equipment, while 10 mastercraft persons, popularly referred to as "Madams," received machines to support hands-on training.

In his keynote address, Hon. Rev. Atta Mensah emphasized that the programme is a "shield for the youth and a pillar for the economy," providing a pathway to financial independence and reducing social vices. He highlighted the importance of acquiring a skill, noting that government workers have a retirement age of 60, but with a skill, there's no retirement age. "Even I, an MCE, can be out of office anytime, but with your own skill, it's otherwise. No retirement and no one can take your skill from you," he said. He added that those with skills often earn more in a month compared to government workers.

Mr. Essien, Central Regional Coordinator of NAP, commended the MCE for his efforts in ensuring Effutu Constituency benefited from the NAP. He announced that President John Dramani Mahama will gift each Madam five handmaking machines, apart from the apprentices receiving their own machines. He also noted that each apprentice will receive a machine to start with, and additional ones upon graduation to support their ventures. "This initiative is a game-changer for our youth, providing them with the skills and tools needed to succeed in today's economy," Mr. Essien said.

Madam Okaile Ayitey, Effutu NADMO Director and Effutu NDC Women Organizer, commended President Mahama for fulfilling his promise. She advised beneficiaries to seize the opportunity to change their lives and acquire a skill. "The president has done his part, now it's up to you to make the most of it," she said. She shared her own experience, revealing that she acquired a skill and is proud that her master is present at the event.

Hon. Rev. Atta Mensah expressed optimism that the programme would have a significant impact on the local economy, adding that the Assembly is hoping to expand the initiative to benefit over 200 beneficiaries in the next phase. The NAP aims to equip Ghana's youth with practical skills and reduce unemployment, aligning with the government's broader vision for economic growth and development.

The event was attended by various stakeholders, including religious leaders, traditional and opinion leaders, heads of municipal departments, and other dignitaries.
