Winneba Sports College Set for Upgrade into Sports University – Hon. Kofi Adams Announces
In a significant development for Ghana’s sports sector, the Minister for Sports & Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, has announced bold plans to upgrade the Winneba Sports College into a full-fledged Sports University.
During his visit to the facility, Hon. Adams stressed the importance of transforming the college into a premier institution that can train top-level sports professionals and athletes across various disciplines. He noted that for too long, the Winneba Sports College — once a beacon of sports education in Ghana — has suffered from dilapidated infrastructure, particularly its training pitches.
According to the Minister, the upgrade will include improvements to pitch quality, renovations of accommodation blocks, and the addition of modern facilities that meet international standards.
“The vision is to make Winneba the hub of sports development and academic training for the entire West African sub-region,” he stated.
The announcement has been met with optimism from the local community and sports enthusiasts, many of whom have long called for renewed attention to the college. If realized, the transformation into a sports university will not only boost Winneba’s educational profile but also provide more opportunities for Ghanaian youth in sports education and professional training.
