Families of El‑Wak Stampede Victims to Receive Automatic Military Enlistment – Deputy Minister of Defence, Hon. Ernest Brogya Genfi

In a compassionate gesture to honor the memory of the six young women who tragically lost their lives during the military recruitment stampede at El-Wak Stadium, the Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon. Ernest Brogya Genfi, has announced that each bereaved family will be granted the opportunity to have one qualified relative enlisted into the Ghana Armed Forces.

The Deputy Minister made this revelation during a government delegation’s visit to the family of one of the deceased applicants in Mankessim, Central Region. The visit formed part of the government’s broader efforts to console and support the grieving families following the unfortunate incident.

According to him, the initiative is a symbolic way to honor the aspirations of the victims, who had dreamed of serving their country through the military. “Though we cannot bring them back, we want to ensure that their dreams are not buried with them,” he said.

  Agona Nyakrom Tradtional Area has successfully concluded its annual Akwanbo Festival 2025 with a strong call from its traditional leader for greater recognition and development. The theme for this year’s celebration was “Salvaging Declining Social Values: A Shared Responsibility of Government & Traditional Rulers.” The week-long event drew thousands of indigenes, visitors, and dignitaries, filling the town with cultural display, unity, and a renewed sense of purpose. Winneba: Police foil attempted robbery at bank

  The Anti-Armed Robbery Response Unit (AARU) of the  Ghana Police Service  has foiled an attempted robbery at the Microfin Rural Bank in Winneba, Central Region. Police said at about 1am on Friday, August 15, 2025, the bank’s alarm was triggered, drawing the attention of a patrol team on duty. The team, sensing unusual activity, proceeded to the bank to investigate. “On reaching the location, they were met with sporadic gunshots from the robbers. After a brief exchange of fire, the gang bolted, leaving behind one pump-action gun and other implements,” the police stated. The AARU team retrieved the weapon together with an empty cartridge from the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest that about five armed men were involved.
