‘Boycott Parliament if Alexander Afenyo‑Markin Faces Privileges Committee’ — Peoples National Party (PNP) Urges Minority

The Peoples National Party (PNP) has called on the Minority Caucus in Parliament to boycott proceedings if Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo‑Markin is referred to the Privileges Committee.

In a statement dated Wednesday, November 12 2025, and signed by its Chairperson Janet Nabla, the PNP accused the Majority Caucus of attempting to suppress the Minority’s voice by pushing for Afenyo‑Markin’s appearance before the committee.

The call follows a petition from Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga to Speaker Alban Bagbin, requesting that Afenyo‑Markin be referred to the Privileges Committee for allegedly defying a parliamentary resolution. Afenyo‑Markin reportedly attended a ECOWAS Parliament session in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, from September 25–28 2025, despite being removed from Ghana’s delegation.

The PNP described the move as “a complete departure from Ghana’s democratic norms and an affront to parliamentary fairness.”

In its statement, the PNP urged the Minority to “boldly defend the Constitution and resist all undemocratic attempts by the NDC government” and warned that if Afenyo‑Markin is unfairly dragged before the committee, a parliamentary boycott should be considered a legitimate form of protest.
