Police Officer Dies by Suicide at Duayaw Nkwanta Charge Office

A tragic incident has occurred at the Duayaw Nkwanta Police Station in the Ahafo Region, where a 40-year-old police officer, identified as Sergeant Brown, reportedly died by suicide while on duty at the charge office.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and authorities have yet to release an official statement. The news has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting discussions about mental health support for law enforcement personnel.

Duayaw Nkwanta, serving as the capital of the Tano North Municipal District in the Ahafo Region, has recently seen developments aimed at bolstering its law enforcement infrastructure. In September 2024, Newmont Africa inaugurated a state-of-the-art police complex in the town, constructed at the cost of GH¢4.4 million, to enhance security and support the police in combating crime in the area.

This incident underscores the importance of providing adequate mental health resources and support systems for police officers, who often face high-stress situations in the line of duty. As investigations continue, the community mourns the loss and reflects on the well-being of those who serve to protect it.
