ECG and NEDCo Propose New Tariff to Fund Street Lighting

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) have submitted a proposal to the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) seeking approval for a new tariff structure aimed at funding street lighting projects across the country.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance public safety and infrastructure by ensuring adequate lighting in communities. The proposed tariff adjustment is expected to provide the necessary financial resources to support the installation and maintenance of streetlights, particularly in underserved areas.

The PURC is currently reviewing the proposal and is expected to make a decision after considering input from stakeholders and the public. If approved, the new tariff will be implemented in phases to minimize the financial impact on consumers.

This development comes amid ongoing efforts by the government to improve the country's energy infrastructure and address challenges in the power distribution sector. The proposed tariff for street lighting is seen as a critical step towards achieving these goals.

Stakeholders and the general public are encouraged to participate in the consultation process to ensure transparency and inclusivity in the decision-making process.
