Let’s Work Hard to Continue the Legacy of Our Forefathers” – Kontihene of Agona Nyakrom at 2025 Akwambo Festival Launch

On Saturday, 28th June 2025, the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area officially launched its annual Akwambo Festival, under the theme:
"Salvaging Declining Social Values; A Shared Responsibility of Government & Traditional Rulers."

The grand event was graced by Nana Tutua V, Queen Mother of Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, along with all sub-queens, the Kontihene, Nana Ekuful IV, the Tufuhene and Akwambo Festival Committee Chairman, Nana Osei Bonsu III, sub-chiefs, Asafo companies, citizens, non-citizens, and several invited dignitaries.

In the absence of the Omanhene, Okofo Okatakyi Nyarko Eku X, Kontihene Nana Ekuful IV represented him and delivered a heartfelt message encouraging unity, culture, and dedication.

“I urge everybody to commit his or herself with hard work to continue the legacy of our forefathers,” he said, emphasizing that it is hard work that has brought development to Agona Nyakrom, and the next generation deserves the same opportunity.

Akwambo, meaning “clearing of the path,” is rooted in history as a practice where ancient forest trails—used for escape or strategic movement during wartime—were cleared annually for emergency preparedness. The festival today serves as a cultural reminder of vigilance, unity, and progress.

The program was chaired by Mrs. Essiamah and assisted by Mr. Kwesi Adokoh Blankson. Various community groups and dignitaries came together to mark the beginning of this significant annual celebration.

In closing, Omanhene Okofo Okatakyi Nyarko Eku X, chiefs, Asafo companies, and the people of Agona Nyakrom extended an open invitation to all citizens—both home and abroad—to fully participate in this year’s Akwambo Festival, whether in kind or in cash, to uphold the tradition and contribute to the town’s health facility expansion.

The main celebration will be held from 2nd to 10th August 2025.
