“I Urge the Agona Nyakrom Youth to Be Patient and Respect the Orders of the Nananom” – Mr. Kwesi Adokoh Blankson, Co-Chairperson for 2025 Akwanbo Launch
On Saturday, 28th June 2025, the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area officially launched the 2025 edition of its annual Akwanbo Festival, under the theme:
“Salvaging Declining Social Values; A Shared Responsibility of Government & Traditional Rulers.”
In his acceptance speech, Co-Chairperson Mr. Kwesi Adokoh Blankson expressed appreciation for the opportunity to co-chair the launch, alongside Madam Chairwoman Mrs. Essiamah.
“We are grateful to lead this occasion and call on everyone to support this festival to make it a success,” he said.
He further encouraged the youth to remain respectful and calm when issues arise.
“I urge the youth of Agona Nyakrom to be patient and respect the orders of the Nananom.”
The launch was attended by Nana Tutua V, Queen Mother of Agona Nyakrom, all sub-queens, Kontihene Nana Ekuful IV, Tufuhene and Akwambo Committee Chairman Nana Osei Bonsu III, Asafo companies, sub-chiefs, citizens, non-citizens, and invited guests.
Akwambo, meaning “clearing of the path,” is a traditional practice rooted in the town’s history—where strategic routes used during wartime were cleared yearly for emergency access. Today, the festival stands as a symbol of unity, vigilance, and cultural pride.
The event, chaired by Mrs. Essiamah and assisted by Mr. Emmanuel Adokoh, marks the beginning of the 2025 celebrations.
In closing, the Omanhene Okofo Katakyi Nyarko Eku X, chiefs, Asafo companies, and the people of Agona Nyarkrom invite all citizens, both home and abroad, to participate in this year’s Akwambo Festival and support in any way possible.
Main celebration: 2nd to 10th August 2025.
