Four passengers are in critical condition and receiving treatment at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital following a head-on collision involving two Sprinter buses on the Senya Bonsuaku highway in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday around 4 a.m. and involved a Sprinter bus with registration number GR 5137-18 traveling from Kasoa to Senya Bereku, and another with registration number AC 804-14 heading in the opposite direction.

According to eyewitness Mr. Kennedy Ewuah, who spoke to EKAE Media , the bus from Kasoa was transporting foodstuffs and had only one passenger on board, while the other bus was fully loaded with passengers traveling from Senya Bereku to Kasoa. Mr. Ewuah indicated that the driver of the Kasoa-bound bus lost control due to poor visibility caused by cloudy weather, leading to the fatal collision.

Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles with broken legs. Residents in the area helped to rescue them and rushed all injured persons to nearby health facilities.

The District Police Commander for Senya Bereku, DSP Kingsley Asante, confirmed that 19 individuals were involved in the accident. Four are in critical condition and are being treated at the Winneba Trauma Hospital. The remaining victims have been transported to the Village of Hope Hospital and the Senya Polyclinic for medical attention.

DSP Asante has urged drivers to exercise caution, especially during adverse weather conditions at night, to prevent such unfortunate incidents.
