Any Claim That The Economic Gains Are Due To Government Not Spending Is Palpably False
The Minister in Charge of Government Communications, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has revealed that the government has spent a whopping GH¢114 billion in the last six months, contradicting claims that economic gains are due to reduced government spending.
According to the minister, the government has made significant investments in various sectors, including debt repayment, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and social protection.
Some of the notable expenditures include:
- US$700 million paid to defray Eurobond debt
- GH¢10 billion paid to domestic bondholders
- GH¢9.1 billion spent on ensuring stable power supply in the energy sector
- GH¢2.9 billion allocated to the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund)
- GH¢1 billion allocated to support the free secondary education program
- GH¢2.7 billion allocated to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS)
- GH¢477 million paid to support extremely poor households under the LEAP program
- GH¢895 million spent on the School Feeding Programme
The minister emphasized that the government's expenditures demonstrate a commitment to various sectors, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social protection. These investments are expected to have a positive impact on Ghana's economic growth and development.
