Agona Nyakrom Traditional Council Cancels 2025 Akwambo Festival in Agona Abodom Over Chieftaincy Dispute

The Agona Nyakrom Traditional Council has officially called off the 2025 Akwambo Festival in Agona Abodom, citing the absence of a legitimately enstooled chief in the community.

Addressing the media at the Nyakrom Palace, the Council stated that the individual currently parading as chief of Agona Abodom has not been recognized by the Agonaman Traditional Council and has not sworn the necessary customary oath. They described him as an “imposter” who has bypassed all traditional protocols.

“There is currently no chief in Agona Abodom,” the Council emphasized.

“As a result, there will be no Akwambo Festival celebration in the community this year.”

The Council further issued a stern warning to government bodies, institutions, and the public not to transact or engage with the said individual or his representatives. “Anyone who does so does it at their own risk,” they added.

In the meantime, the Council has appointed Nana Owirow XIV as Interim Chief to oversee community affairs until a legitimate chief is installed through the proper legal and traditional procedures.

The Council reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the sanctity of customs and the peace of the traditional area.
