Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area launches 2025 Akwambo Festival.
The Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area proudly launched their 2025 annual Akwambo Festival on Saturday, June 28, 2025, with a theme: "Salvaging Declining Social Values; A Shared Responsibility Of Government & Traditional Rulers."
The festival, slated for August 2nd to 10th, promises to be a vibrant celebration of culture, heritage, and community development.
Akwambo, which literally means "clearing of paths," has its roots in the traditional practice of clearing emergency routes used during wartime. These routes were crucial for escape and tracking enemies and were cleared annually to ensure readiness.
Historically, the festival also served as a form of census, where able-bodied men who participated in wars would return home and place oil palm branches near the "Oman Posuban" (shrine).
The launch ceremony was graced by esteemed royal personalities, including Queen Mother of Agona Nyakrom Tradition Area, Nana Tutua V, Kontihene Nana Ekuful IV, Tufuhen Nana Osei Bonsu III (Akwambo Committee Chairman), Sub-Chiefs of Agona Nyakrom, Sub-Queens o Agona Nyakrom, Asafo companies, citizens, and dignitaries. Mrs. Essiamah chaired the program, assisted by Mr. Kwesi Adokoh Blankson.

Mr Kwesi Adokoh Blankson, Co-Chairman, expressed gratitude and urged everyone to support the event, while advising the youth to exercise patience and respect for traditional authorities. Kontihene Nana Ekuful IV, representing Omanhene Okofo Okatakyi Nyarko Eku X, emphasized the importance of hard work and commitment to continue the legacy of their forefathers.
Kontihene Nana Ekuful IVNana Tufuhen, also the Chairman of the Akwambo Planning Committee, Nana Osei Bonsu III, urged everyone to attend the festival with preparedness, either in cash or kind. He revealed that this year's festival aims to generate funds to expand the health facility in Agona Nyakrom, with plans to construct a Male Ward, Female Ward, Children's Ward, Dental Clinic, and more.
