On Friday, June 13, 2025, Neenyi Ghartey VII, the Paramount Chief of Effutu Traditional Area, unveiled the design of the proposed market at the MCE's stakeholders' meeting. The central market in Winneba has been facing challenges due to overcrowding, a result of the growing population in the Effutu constituency. Built in somewhere 2000s, the market was initially sufficient to cater to the needs of the community. During the 2024 election campaign season, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama promised the people of Effutu constituency that if voted into power, his government would build a new ultra-modern market that would operate 24 hours a day, aligning with his 24-hour economy policy. True to his word, after winning the elections, the government announced plans to build the market through the Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Panyin Eduamoah, and Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim at the 2025 Simpa Aboakyer Festival, Durbar ground. They added that Neenyi Ghartey VII should prepare 4 hectares of land for the market.

The unveiling of the design marks a significant milestone in the development of the market.
