NCA Cracks Down on Non-Compliant FM Stations: 62 Directed to Suspend Operations

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has taken decisive action against 62 FM broadcasting stations across Ghana for various regulatory infractions. These stations have been directed to immediately suspend operations on their respective frequencies until they address and rectify the issues.

The affected stations fall into four main categories ¹:

- *Expired Authorizations*: 28 stations were found operating with expired authorizations, despite being ordered to cease broadcasting in 2024.

- *Failure to Set Up*: 14 stations had received notices of revocation for failing to establish operations within two years of being granted authorization.

- *Unpaid Authorization Fees*: 13 stations had provisional authorizations but failed to pay the full authorization fees.

- *Incomplete Requiremen7 stations had paid provisional authorization fees but hadn't fulfilled the requirements needed for final authorization issuance.

The NCA remains committed to maintaining order in the broadcasting sector and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The authority emphasizes that affected stations must rectify infractions before resuming operations ².

The enforcement action follows a directive from the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, instructing the NCA to take action against defaulting stations based on findings from a recent audit. The NCA's move aims to regulate Ghana's broadcasting industry and promote an orderly industry ¹.

The suspended stations can only resume operations once all regulatory infractions have been addressed and rectified. Failure to comply with the directive may result in grave consequences for their authorizations
