In a recent interview, multiple award-winning presenter Emmanuel Kwesi Aboagye Essibu sat down with Mr. Samuel Aketewa, a mental health professional from the Winneba Health Service Centre's Psychiatric Unit, to discuss tackling mental health and stigma. Mr. Aketewa shared crucial advice on how to handle encounters with aggressive mentally ill individuals.
When sharing the same lane on the street with an aggressive mentally ill person, Mr. Aketewa warns to:
"Avoid getting closer to mentally ill persons before crossing the road, as this may annoy them and lead to harm"
Mr. Aketewa emphasizes that individuals with mental health conditions may react unpredictably, and it's essential to prioritize safety.
Let's take Mr. Aketewa's advice to heart and approach such situations with empathy and caution. By doing so, we can ensure our safety and contribute to a more supportive environment for mental health.
