Effutu Traditional Council Reschedules Aboakyer Festival Launch to February 17, 2026
The Effutu Traditional Council and Aboakyer Planning Committee have announced a change in the launch date of the annual Aboakyer Festival. The event, initially set for Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 9:00 am at the Kojo Beedu Community Center in Winneba, Ghana's Central Region, will now take place on February 17, 2026, at the same time and venue.
The Royal Court of Winneba and the Aboakyer Festival Committee released an official statement on the postponement of the Aboakyer 2026 launch, which reads:
OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON THE POSTPONEMENT OF ABOAKYER 2026 LAUNCH
The Royal Court of Winneba and the Aboakyer Festival Committee regret to announce that the launch of Aboakyer 2026 has been rescheduled to 17th February 2026.
This decision was taken due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control, to ensure a successful and memorable event.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the change in date and kindly request that all stakeholders take note of the new launch date.
New Date: 17th February 2026.
We appreciate your understanding and look forward to celebrating Aboakyer 2026 with you!

This year's festival theme is "Advancing our cultural heritage for development."
The Aboakyer Festival is a centuries-old tradition commemorating the Simpafo people's migration from Timbuktu to Winneba.
It features a competition between the Tuafo and Dentsifo Asafo companies to capture a live bushbuck, showcasing vibrant music, dance, and regalia.
The festival, typically held on the first Saturday in May, promotes community, tradition, and cultural continuity, fostering unity and shared identity.
